A Home of Our Own
by Messianic Rabbi Michael Weygant Just a quick glance at the 2008 calendar of events posted on our congregational website (www.roshpinah.org) verifies that Rosh Pinah congregation (KRP) is an active and expanding ministry. For a number of years we have leased meeting and office space from our dear friends at Covenant Life Church (CLC), who have graciously opened their facility (and their hearts) to our congregation. Indeed, Senior Pastor Dwight Cunkle and Pastor Emeritus Richard McAfee, their wives, the elders and the staff at CLC are, in my opinion, among the finest in the OKC community. Yet, like Rosh Pinah, the ministry and outreach of Covenant Life Church is wonderfully expanding and touching more and more lives. To state it metaphorically then, we have two growing feet and one ‘shrinking’ pair or shoes; that is, two expanding outreaches in one limited space. Although the need is not yet dire nor beyond the available accommodations, it could easily become that way. That would be a good problem but still a problem remedied by godly foresight. Moreover, if we are not proactive on the issue of congregational growth, the well-known axiom: "to not provide for growth potential is to assure a ‘no-growth’ status quo" could easily come into play. We should not let that happen. Accordingly, the elders of Rosh Pinah and a growing number of the fine women and men of the Rosh Pinah community have been actively interceding to our Heavenly Father for a home of our own. Some members of the community have even been sacrificially giving offerings to the building fund beyond their regular tithes to our general fund, letting the LORD know that they are seriously committed to His Kingdom going forth through our unique, vibrant community. Our desire therefore is to find a suitable and affordable location in the central to northwest quadrant of the OKC area to develop as a unique Messianic Jewish place of ministry and teaching. The exciting congregational life of KRP would be a central focus, with Yeshua the Messiah being THE center of all that we espouse. Some of the KRP ministries we could potentially develop, given the proper space and freedom of scheduling that a home of our own would permit include: increased classes of instruction attractive to the Church and the Jewish community and increased Hebrew language studies. We could also offer to the community-at-large focused studies for the men and the women, parenting classes and parenting support, and a food pantry and other ministries of ‘helps’ that are important within a community. We could host more events, do our Passover Seder in our own facility thus saving costs, and extend hospitality more efficiently to those coming in to OKC from Israel and beyond. These are a few of the many thrilling examples of what could come to pass if we all ‘chip in’ and catch the vision for growth. I sense that our Heavenly Father is near to us at this time and will provide for Rosh Pinah. You may ask: "How can I be of help in this growth process?" Here are SEVEN practical but effective ways to help us work together to accomplish His purposes at this important juncture in our congregational history. 1. Be supportive prayerfully. Would you commit to intercede for a new KRP facility? 2. Be supportive physically. Would you commit to faithfully attend KRP services? 3. Be supportive socially. Would you tell others about KRP, inviting them to share in the exciting vision of Messianic Judaism? 4. Be supportive financially. Would you tithe faithfully to the LORD through KRP and consider giving above your tithe, special love offerings designated for the Building Fund? 5. Be supportive vocally. Would you consider telling your acquaintances about our growing need for a home of our own? 6. Be supportive spiritually. Would you consider holding up the arms of the KRP elders as we shoulder the challenges of growth? 7. Be supportive as a co-visionary. Would you catch the vision being cast for a dynamic Messianic Jewish outreach center here in the heart of Oklahoma, the strategic Heartland of America? Our hope and prayer is that you will respond with a hearty "AMEN!" to the call to be supportive of the vision of GOD for KRP. Obviously, there is much more to say about this impending new and exciting step for Kehilat Rosh Pinah. Our understanding of such a step mirrors that of the Psalmist who proclaimed: "Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who try to do it." Our confidence is in Yeshua and by extension, to those in Him who have a willing heart that looks to Him. We know that when we maintain Him as our focus, He leads us and He provides. Join us as we seek Him about expanding our outreach in these last days. If you so desire, please contact me via private Email at: rabbiweygant@roshpinah.org to respond to this article. Your comments, prayers, intercessions and support are desired and appreciated. Shalom, dear friends, and may many blessings be extended to you in Messiah Yeshua our Glorious LORD and Savior, Whose grace fails not! |
