Today’s times are unstable and sometimes fearful, but G-d is the same yesterday, today
and forever. Even during unstable times we can stand in faith on G-d’s stability. The
story of Esther, for instance … what an awesome story of G-ds intervention!
G-d used ordinary people like Mordecai and Esther to deliver their Jewish brothers and
sisters from destruction. All the Israelites in Babylon participated in G-d’s deliverance as
well. When the decree was sent forth by Haman, the enemy, to destroy every Jew in
Babylon, the people humbled themselves, fasted and prayed to G-d for their deliverance.
They did not first try to fix the problem themselves. They got on their knees and prayed.
Even before Mordecai sent word to Esther, he fasted and prayed. At Esther’s first
hesitation, Mordecai’s answer was definitely a clarifying point in her life. Esther 4:14:
For if you fail to speak up now, relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from a
different direction and your father's family will perish. Who knows whether you didn't
come into your royal position precisely for such a time as this? (CJB).
We all know how the story of Esther ended. G-d gave Esther the position of Queen
for such a time to bring deliverance to her people. Her reply to Mordecai was really
what made Esther the extraordinary person she needed to be in this situation to help her
people. Esther 4:16: Go, assemble all the Jews to be found in Shushan, and have them
fast for me, neither eating nor drinking for three days, night and day; also I and the Girls
attending me will fast the same way. Then I will go to the king, which is
against the law; and if I perish, I perish. (CJB) Esther trusted her G-d and was willing
to go before the king of Persia uninvited even though such an act could end her life. She
put her life in the hands of others willing to fast and pray for her. She obviously believed
in the power of prayer; and G-d heard the prayers of the Jews and gave Esther favor. All
Jews who fasted and prayed those three days took part in their own deliverance and were
as central to that event as Mordecai and Esther. The people were unified through
prayer. They all played a part in this wonderful story of Esther.
Now we live in a time when the enemy of our souls is Satan. Satan constantly tries to
destroy believers both Jew and Gentile. Israel is being taken apart piece by piece, and
Satan is stirring up more and more hatred for the Jews both believing and non-believing.
The enemy not only wants to kill our bodies, but also to keep us from eternal life. G-d
is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and He surely has situated people like
Mordecai and Esther in positions for such a time as this. He has also positioned people
like you and me to fast and pray for such a time as this. We are to pray for those people
whether it be the President’s wife, your local representatives, or the teacher in your
children’s’ school. G-d used fasting and prayer to deliver the Jews from Haman’s plan to
destroy them. He is still responding to prayer to deliver many from the hands of Satan
and into salvation through Yeshua.
